Year 2: Miss Thomas 2018 - 2019

Miss Thomas

Over the Autumn term, the children have worked extremely hard and developed the key skills of independence and resilience that are essential for their life long journey with learning. We are continuing to thrive in our year two classroom and have an amazing attitude towards learning...always trying to achieve our best.
This term we will be learning many new things. We will be continuing our geography learning journey by studying Australia during the first half term, and then moving to our new topic Locality for Spring term two.  Our history topic for this first half term continues to be ‘Story of My Life’ focussing on famous people from our local area.  During our Science sessions we will be studying 'Plants' during Spring term one, and then 'Use of everyday materials' for Spring term two. We also have our art week this half term on week three, studying the designer Victoria Beckham.
Year 2 is a wonderful year to teach as the children enjoy reflecting on their progress they make throughout the year and continue to improve their knowledge and skills as we continue our journey.  They continue to show their hard working attitude in every lesson and thoroughly enjoy our classroom discussions based around social, moral, spiritual and cultural issues, making them more aware of the world around them, forming opinions and sharing these ideas with the class.
We have also started to complete our timestable challenge weekly.  For this, they are tested on Monday, the sheet is sent home fpr the children to practise, and then the same test is given on Friday.  They are encouraged to focus solely on their own score, and aim to beat their score each week.  Ways to support your child with this is to have them practise their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support for the first half term and I look forward to our journey ahead.
If you have any queries you wish to ask me, I'm free every night after school except Wednesday, so please just ask.
Thank you for visiting our class page.
