Year 1 - Miss Howard 2018 - 2019

Miss Howard

Welcome to Year 1

Hello! I'm Miss Howard, the class teacher and our learning assistant is Mrs Rawlinson. We are so excited to be able to share our school experiences with you on our own class page.

Year 1 is a busy, exciting and challenging year filled with many changes as the children move from Foundation stage into Key Stage 1. We have designed an exciting and engaging curriculum that will bring out each child’s creativity. Our classroom is a highly stimulating and rich environment which holds many opportunities for your child to access their own resources, to inspire and enhance their  learning.

We recognise and value the contribution you can make to your child’s learning at home and, as a result, we send home regular homework and projects relating to our current theme.

We do hope your child enjoys their time in year 1.  Remember, our door is always open if you need us and no question is ever too small.

Thank you for visiting our page, keep checking back to keep up to date with all of our news and achievements.

Autumn Term

This half term we are very busy in each of our curriculum areas;

Maths - We will be consolidating our understanding of numbers up to 20, adding and subtracting numbers to 10, doubling and halving numbers within 10, alongside improving our mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills.

English - We are focusing on building up our basic writing skills, using capital letters, spaces, full stops and forming our letters properly. We will be looking at a range of writing genres such as: descriptive writing, list, captions and postcards. We will also be building our reading skills, decoding is an important skill, however, in Year 1 we focus on also developing our comprehension skills. Whenever we read it is vital that we talk about what we have read and answer questions about the text.
