KS1: Mrs Saphier 2021 - 2022

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Mrs Saphier and I am one of the Key Stage 1 teachers. In our classroom there is also Mrs Dandy to help us with our learning.

We have PE days on Mondays and Tuesdays, please ensure PE kits are in school. We will send them home at the end of each half term for them to be washed.

In our class we are lucky to have a mix of focused activities and play to learn opportunities.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Banded reading books – these are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge.

Reading for pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

In English we will be exploring some of our favourite stories including Peace At Last, Whatever Next and Farmer Duck.

In Maths we will continue to deepen our knowledge and understanding of numbers up to 20, inlcuding addition and subtraction facts. We ill be learning to represent these numbers using blocks, tens frames and numberlines!

In Science we will continue to investigate and explore 'Everyday Materials' and their properties.

In History we will be stepping back in time and learning about The Great Fire of London and how this historic event has impacted the way we live today.

We will be comparing the North and South Pole and learning about capital cities in the UK in Geography.

In RE we will be learning all about the Islam religion and beliefs.

In PSHE we will be thinking about how we can keep safe while using the internet.

In ICT we will be using the laptops to learn and explore how to paint using a computer.

In DT week we have a delicious treat - will be designing and making our own pizzas!

In PE this half term – we will be improving our dance skills with Miss Cook and our games skills with Mr Brown.

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The third YELLOW Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before the end of term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Yellow Spring 1). I can't wait to see the photos of what you have been getting up to! If you have completed most of these challenges before the end of term, you will earn your Yellow Rainbow Certificate.
