KS1: Mrs Saphier 2021 - 2022

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Mrs Saphier and I am one of the Key Stage 1 teachers. In our classroom there is also Mrs Dandy to help us with our learning.

We have PE days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, please ensure PE kits are in school. We will send them home at the end of each half term for them to be washed.

In our class we are lucky to have a mix of focused activities and play to learn opportunities.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Banded reading books – these are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge.

Reading for pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

In English we will be exploring some new stories Biscuit Bear and Vegetable Glue.

In Maths we will be looking at numbers 50-100 and using addition and subtraction skills upto 100! We will also begin looking at multiplication and division skills.

In Science we will be investigating plants - including functions of parts of the plant. We will also be looking at wild flowers.

In History we will continue our local history topic, Rainhill. Children will learn all about the area in which they live, including local landmarks, and looking at where we are in realtion to the UK. We will also be looking more in depth into the Rainhill Trials and how this affected rail travel today.

We will continue our learning about Canada and the Mounties in Geography and how this differs from where we live.

In RE we will be learning all about Christianity and how we belong to different families.

In PSHE we will be thinking about different jobs in the community and who can help us.

In ICT we will be using the Ipads to complete simple programming for the first time which the children are already excited about.

In PE this half term – we will be learning new dance skills with Miss Cook and our games skills with Mr Brown. We will also be practising for Sports Day!

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The fourth PURPLE Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before the end of term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Purple Summer 1). I can't wait to see the photos of what you have been getting up to! If you have completed most of these challenges before the end of term, you will earn your Purple Rainbow Certificate.
