KS1: Mrs Saphier 2021 - 2022

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Mrs Saphier and I am one of the Key Stage 1 teachers. In our classroom there is also Mrs Dandy to help us with our learning.

We have PE days on Tuesdays and Fridays, please ensure PE kits are in school. We will send them home at the end of each half term for them to be washed.

In our class we are lucky to have a mix of focused activities and play to learn opportunities.

In KS1 we have three different books that are sent home.

Banded reading books – these are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

RWI books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are phonetically plausible books that are chosen specific in line with your child’s phonic knowledge.

Reading for pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

In English we will be exploring lots of different books including Billy's Bucket, The Sand Dragon and Kitchen Disco.

In Maths we will be deepening our knowledge and understanding of numbers up to 20, inlcuding addition and subtraction facts. We will also be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and exploring repeating patterns.

Our Science subject this half term is Animals Including Humans. We will be learning about different ypes of animals and their bodies.

In History we will be stepping back in time and learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gun Powder Plot.

We will be looking at towns and beaches across the UK in Geography.

In RE we will be learning all about Christians and their beliefs.

In PHSE we will be thinking about how we belong to our community and our roles within.

In ICT we will be learning about E-safety and thinking about instructions.

In Art week we will be learning all about the famous artist Gaudi. In DT week we will be looking at bridges.

In PE we will be focusing on ball skills, in particular practising our throwing and catching.

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The first RED Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before October half term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Red Autumn 1). If you have completed most of these challenges before October half term, you will earn your Red Rainbow Certificate.
