KS1: Miss Patino 2021 - 2022

Miss Patino

Y2 teacher KS1 manager

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Miss Patino, I teach one of our KS1 classes, and I am lucky enough to look after all the children in KS1. In our classroom, we also have Miss Croft and Mrs McEgan, who are both fabulous members of our support staff.

We have had a great start to Year 2 and I can’t wait to see what the rest of year holds.

During this half term, in Maths we will be focussing on multiplication and division facts as well as furthering our addition and subtraction knowledge, (using bar models, part whole models and other manipulatives). During our additional Maths lessons we are going to be learning how to use rekenreks and deepening our understanding of number facts.

We will be exploring many different texts in our English sessions including ‘Gorilla’, ‘The Baker Boy and the Great Fire of London’ as well as studying poems written by Walter de la Mare.

In History, we will be looking at the Great Fire of London. We will be exploring the events that led to the famous events, changes in London and the impact on British History.

In Geography, we will be exploring Delamere Forest alongside our previous work about Blackpool and Prescot, particularly how they compare to each other.

In Science, we will be exploring materials and their everyday uses. We will learn about different materials, objects and the properties of these materials. We will also investigate the suitability of different materials for different purposes.

During our Music sessions, we will be practising explore beat, rhythm and tempo, as well as learning how to sign our class song.

In RE we will be exploring Hindu Dharma including rituals and routines, and in PSHE, we will continue exploring how to respect ourselves and others as well as keeping healthy, both physically and mentally.

During this half term, we will have a DT week, when will be creating our own cookies, exploring where our food comes from and how to have a healthy diet.

We are also lucky enough to be having some PE sessions with Miss Cook on Monday and Tops PE on a Tuesday. Please ensure your child has their full kit in school. Kits will then be sent home at the end of half term to be washed.

This half term we will be sending home two different reading books.

Banded reading books – these are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

Reading for pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The third YELLOW Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before we finish for the February half term. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Yellow Spring 1) or write a note in your planner. If you have completed most of these challenges before we finish for February half term, you will earn your YELLOW Rainbow Certificate.

If you ever have any concerns or want to discuss something, please make a note in your child’s planner that you would like to speak to me or email the school office and I will get back to you ASAP. Please remember to read with your child as often as possible. School planners are checked daily for any messages.

I’m really looking forward to another interesting year with another wonderful group of Longton Lane children.
