KS1: Miss Patino 2021 - 2022

Miss Patino

Y2 teacher KS1 manager

Hello and welcome to our class page.

I am Miss Patino, I teach one of our KS1 classes, and I am lucky enough to look after all the children in KS1. In our classroom, we also have Miss Croft and Mrs McEgan, who are both fabulous members of our support staff.

We have had a great Year 2 we have had already and now we get to consolidate all of our learning this half term.

During this half term, in Maths we will be focussing on both 2D and 3D shape, direction and movement, measurement (incuding mass, temperature capacity and length), using the most efficient methods and consolidating our place value.

We will be exploring many different texts in our English sessions including ‘Crow's Tale’ and 'The disgusting sandwich', we will also be reading 'Flat Stanley' and 'George's Marvellous Medicine' as well as other exciting books.

In History, we will continue to be researching our local area, including famous landmarks, changes over time and significant events that have happened, including the famous Rainhill Trials in 1929.

In Geography, we will continue to further our knowledge of the non-European country of Canada.

In Science, we will be exploring plants, how they grow, change and what conditions are needed to survive.

During our Music sessions, we will be practising exploring beat, rhythm and tempo, as well as learning how to play instruments in time with a song. We will be recapping lal of the songs we have previously learnt and perform them.

In RE we will be exploring Christianity, particularly the Church, how and why symbols are used, our school values and our community - and how we show commitment.

During this half term, we will have a week celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

We are also lucky enough to be having some PE sessions with Tops PE (Mr Brown) on a Tuesday and rugby training with Saints on a Wednesday. Please ensure your child has their full kit in school. Kits will then be sent home at the end of half term to be washed.

This half term we will be sending home two different reading books.

Banded reading books – these are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.

Reading for pleasure books – these are sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. These are books that are to be shared as a family, at bed time, before tea or just snuggled up on the sofa.

In addition to reading daily, we have Rainbow Challenges for KS1. These are challenges set for each half term. The sixth and final PURPLE Rainbow Challenge has six different activities for you to complete before we finish for in July. Please take pictures of you completing each activity and add it onto School Spider (Rainbow Challenges Purple Summer 2) or write a note in your planner. If you have completed most of these challenges before we finish for Summer, you will earn your PURPLE Rainbow Certificate.

If you ever have any concerns or want to discuss something, please make a note in your child’s planner that you would like to speak to me or email the school office and I will get back to you ASAP. Please remember to read with your child as often as possible. School planners are checked daily for any messages.

I’m really looking forward to our final half term in Year 2.
